Final Results

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Serena San Cartier won the 200m (26.24) and the 100m hurdles (14.23 dual record) while senior David Koponen claimed the 800m title (1:58.22) as the Oakland track and field team swept the rival University of Detroit Mercy on senior day at the 10th Annual Dual Meet held for the first time on campus at the new track and field stadium on Saturday. Ashley Burr also won two events in the 1500m (4:53.21) and 3000m (10:12.24) along with Bryce Stroede who claimed titles in the 1 mile run (4:26.29) and 3000m (8:31.30 dual record).

For the first time in the 10 year dual meet history, the Golden Grizzlies defeated the Titans on both sides as the men set a dual meet record with 113.5 points to 61.5 points while the women came from behind to win 99 to 96 points. After the meet, seniors Jenae Curley, Meagan Joiner, Koponen, San Cartier and Nathan Ziolko were honored for their hard work and dedication to the program.

"We had a huge crowd today for a track meet in April when it is cold and windy. We could feel the love and support today for our program and that is what really carried us through," said head coach Paul Rice. "It was a really special performance for the women being down 14 points with three events to go and pulled it out to win by three." The men are running strong and performing well and stepped it up another notch today. Being in this brand new facility has generated so much excitement and has been 24 years in the making for me to get to this point. Today was great since we have never have won on both sides in this meet, we are very excited for the future and this facility is a part of it."

Other first place finishes on the men's side included: Jeff Aririguzo (100m - 11.07), Aaron Davis (200m - 22.84), Tré Brown (110m hurdles - 15.50, 400m hurdles - 56.96), Andrew Bowman (2000m Steeplechase - 6:09.23 dual record), Aaron Fielder (Pole Vault - 2.90m), Matthew Jordan (Long Jump - 6.27m), Gino Vitella (Shot Put - 16.06m), Tyler Beeson (Discus - 42.78m) and Nicholas Girodat (Javelin - 42.58m).

For the women, other first place finishers were: Sydney Sterling (400m - 58.77), Karli Keur (800m - 2:21.18), Miranda Haas part of its (2000m Steeplechase - 7:14.03), Angela Ciaravino (High Jump - 1.57m), Megan Simientowski (Pole Vault - 2.75m), Hayley MacDonald (Long Jump - 5.06m), Meghan Daly (Javelin - 32.10m). The 4X100 relay team of San Cartier, Kendell Jefferson, Arnesha Jennings and Candice Mack also claimed first place with a dual meet record time of 48.49.

Oakland remains at home and will host the Golden Grizzly Duals at the track and field stadium on Saturday, April 11th.
