FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Elizabeth Guy tallied a doubles win and forced a tie-breaker in her singles match as Oakland dropped a 6-1 decision to Evansville Saturday afternoon in a neutral court contest between the two teams.
Guy paired with Tamara Blum at No. 2 doubles and posted a solid 6-4 victory. That, paired with a No. 3 doubles victory by Cam Sabourin and Juliana Guevara gave the Golden Grizzlies the first point of the day. Sabourin and Guevara posted a 7-5 win to secure the doubles point.
"We started strong today," said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw. "We had three close singles matches, with two going to the third set. We just came up short."
In singles action, Guy battled back from a one-set deficit to win the second set at No. 4 singles, 6-2. But Guy was unable to maintain her momentum and dropped the match, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
Also forcing a tiebreaker was Karine Celis at No. 2 singles, which was a close contest throughout. Celis eventually lost late, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-5 in the nailbiter.
Camille Hemond-Hill also forced a tiebreaker in her first set at No. 5 singles before dropping a 7-6 (6), 6-0 match.
