OAKLAND SUFFERS OVERTIME LOSS AT CLEVELAND STATE, 80-74

CLEVELAND - Peyton Apsey scored a career-high 24 points and Olivia Nash recorded a double-double as the Oakland women's basketball team (10-14, 4-7 HL) fell in overtime to Cleveland State (14-9, 6-4 HL), 80-74, Saturday afternoon inside the Wolstein Center.

Apsey tallied a career-high 24 points by tying her career-best with five 3-pointers. Nash tallied 15 points and 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season, tied for second in the Horizon League. Nola Anderson recorded 12 points, while Elena Popkey added 10.

With the game tied at 63-63 in regulation, the Golden Grizzlies would take a three point lead with six seconds on the clock after Peyton Apsey hit two free throws, followed by Sinclair Russell splitting a pair at the foul line. CSU's Imani Gordon would take the ball the length of the court and bank in an off-balanced 3-pointer with 0.1 second remaining to send the game into overtime.

In the extra session, the Vikings would jump out to a four-point advantage as Kiersten Green scored five points. Oakland was unable to grab the lead shooting 27 percent from the floor in overtime.

The Golden Grizzlies held a 32-29 advantage going into halftime behind 11 points by Nash and a pair of triples by Apsey. Oakland led by as many as 10 points in the opening period, holding CSU to just 33 percent shooting. The Vikings however would score the final five points of the half to cut the margin to three points at intermission.

The Vikings were led by Cori Coleman and Gordon who each recorded double-doubles in the contest. Coleman finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Gordon recorded 21 points and 10 boards.

Oakland returns home after two weeks on the road as they host the University of Detroit Mercy as part of the Metro Series on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m. It will be the annual Pink Game in the O'rena as fans are asked to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
