YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Nola Anderson scored 13 points and Sinclair Russell added 11 as the Oakland women's basketball team (10-13, 4-6 HL) fell to Youngstown State (16-7, 5-5 HL), 76-54, Wednesday evening at the Beeghly Center.
Anderson and Russell combined to shoot 10-of-14 from the floor as Oakland shot 40 percent for the game including 52 percent in the second half. Anderson tallied her 14th double-digit point effort of the season and recorded a team-high six rebounds. Russell collected her eighth double-figure point game of the season. Elena Popkey tallied eight points to pass Sharise Calhoun for 25th on the program's all-time scoring list.
Youngstown State shot 55 percent for the game including 76 percent on 19-of-25 shooting in the second period. The Penguins were led by Heidi Schlegel with 20 points, while Kelsea Newman added 13.
Oakland trailed 28-22 at the half after Korrin Taylor hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds remaining before intermission. YSU would pound the paint in the second period, scoring 30 points in the post and outrebounding Oakland 16-7 en route to the 22-point win.
The Golden Grizzlies will conclude a four-game road stint on Saturday as they travel to Cleveland State to play the Vikings on Valentine's Day starting at 2 p.m.
