OAKLAND EDGED AT GEORGIA, 86-82

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Yante Maten scored 21 points, including two free throws with 36.1 seconds left, to lift Georgia to an 86-82 victory over Oakland on Tuesday night. Kay Felder and Jalen Hayes led the Golden Grizzlies with 23 points each. Max Hooper finished with career-best 21 points on seven 3-pointers.

Gameday

Maten matched his career high in points, set in a loss to Seton Hall on November 28. He also had a team-high nine rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-2).

Oakland (3-3) had a chance to either tie it or take the lead, but Hooper missed a 3-point attempt and the ball went out of bounds.

The officials initially gave possession to Oakland, but after viewing the replay, gave the ball to Georgia.

J.J. Frazier scored 23 points to lead the Bulldogs. Charles Mann had 15 points, Mike Edwards scored 14 and Kenny Gaines added 10 points for Georgia.

Edwards hit two straight layups to key Georgia's 9-0 run that gave the Bulldogs a 74-70 lead with 6:40 remaining. It was capped by Gaines' 3-pointer.

Oakland outscored Georgia 9-2 to take a 68-62 lead with nine minutes left in the game.

Felder hit a 3-pointer and made two free throws to key the run.

Oakland twice led by nine points midway through the first half as Georgia opened the game 4 of 16 from the field.

Percy Gibson's jumper gave the Golden Grizzlies an 18-9 lead, and after Frazier's layup cut the advantage to 18-11, Felder hit two free throws for a 20-11 lead.

The Bulldogs then outscored Oakland 17-7 in the next four minutes to take a 28-27 lead.

Maten scored seven of Georgia's total during the run and Frazier hit a 3-pointer.

The Golden Grizzlies retook the lead at 37-34 on a pair of 3-pointers from Felder and Max Hooper, who hit three 3-pointers in the first half.

TIP-INS

Oakland's Kay Felder entered the game leading Division I with 10.8 assists a game, but had five.

Georgia's Gaines has a combined 35 points in three games since setting his career high with 35 in a win over Murray State on Nov. 20.
