Oct. 1, 2015 ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's soccer team hosts Valparaiso Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET in Horizon League play for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, where all Oakland University faculty and staff can receive two free tickets to the game.
A LOOK AT THE CRUSADERS: After starting the season 0-2 in losses to ninth-ranked Notre Dame and Northwestern, Valparaiso has lost just one game since, coming in with a 4-3-3 (2-0-1) record. They are led by forward April Cronin who leads the team with 5 goals, tied for first in the Horizon League.
RAPID FIRE: Shooting has not been an issue for either team as Valparaiso (160) and Oakland (153) rank first and third respectively in the Horizon League in total shots. Alice Palmer leads the team with 33 shots, ranking third in the Horizon League, while Joan Sieja ranks fourth in the conference with 31.
EXTRA TIME: Oakland's 1-1 tie with Detroit (Sept. 30) marked the fifth this season, a school record. Oakland ranks fourth in the nation in minutes played with 1,185 minutes, nearly 100 minutes more than any other conference opponent.
PRESEASON HYPE: Oakland and Valparaiso were picked to finish at the top of the Horizon League in the August preseason poll. The Crusaders were picked to win the league, receiving nine first-place votes, while the Golden Grizzlies were picked second.
