Sept. 5, 2014

Box Score

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Kyla Kellermann scored her second goal of the season off a feed from Alice Palmer to lead Oakland (1-5) in a 2-1 setback to Central Michigan (1-2-1) on Friday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Complex. In addition to her first assist of the season, Palmer added four shots as the Golden Grizzles outshot the Chippewas 13-9 for the game. However, they could not get the equalizer after Kellermann's tally cut the lead in half during the 69th minute. Alison Holland recorded two saves defensively.

"I am disappointed with the loss. We had a slow start but still created chances in the first half," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "In the second half, we came out and dominated possession and created more chances but could only put one away. It was a great shot by Kellermann that got us right back in the game but we could not convert the other chances we created. I am happy we created chances and moved the ball well, but we need to be more clinical in front of the net."

Laura Goose put Central up 1-0 with an unassisted tally from 12 yards out off a deflection during the 31st minute of the first half. She added another goal in the second half off a breakaway feed up the middle putting CMU up 2-0 in the 66 minute.

Three minutes later, Kellermann fired a shot from the ride side 20 yards out hitting the far post into the net past CMU goalkeeper Maddy Bunnell.

Oakland travels to Colorado Springs for a 9 p.m. match at Colorado College on Friday, Sept. 12 at Stewart Field.
