OAKLAND STUNS GREEN BAY, 2-1

Sept. 27, 2014

Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Goals from Claudia Krupicz and Vlad Gurovski propelled Oakland (3-8-1, 1-1) to a 2-1 victory over Green Bay (6-3-2, 0-1) Friday night at the Oakland Soccer Field. Jenny Rosonke assisted on the first goal while Joan Sieja's assist set up Gurovski's first career game-winner. GB, who entered the match with the Horizon League's best overall record and highest scoring offense, was held scoreless in the second half courtesy of Alison Holland who came off the bench to spark the defense helping the Golden Grizzlies earn their first conference win.

"Tonight we knew we were going up against a really tough team in Green Bay who are very good on set pieces," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "We made it our mission to be strong in that area and we knew if we could hold them at bay, we would be able to create enough chances to win this game. Thankfully, we did that and I am happy we put those two chances away. We also used a team defensive effort putting pressure on the ball if we lost it and had cover across the field. The energy level tonight was really good, the effort was there to really win the ball back and that is what kept us in the game and gave us an opportunity to win."

Krupicz got Oakland on the board just three minutes into the game taking a cross from Rosonke and sliding it past GB goalkeeper Nastacia Behle to the low left corner.

In the 16th minute, Green Bay got the equalizer as Hannah Kernen sent in a blast from 25 yards out which Stephanie Bukovec was able to get an outstretched hand on but not prevent from going in.

In the second half, Sieja and Gurovski connected on the game-winner in the 76th minute. Sieja held the ball getting the defenders to over commit and passed it up to an open Gurovski. She then dribbled in deep down the right side and, from a difficult angle, connected on a low shot back across the goal putting it past Behle giving Oakland the 2-1 win.

Oakland continues Horizon League play with a match at Youngstown State on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
