ROCHESTER, Mich. - The quest for the Horizon League title begins as the Oakland women's soccer team concludes its six-game road trip with a conference match at Valparaiso on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Eastgate Field.
The Golden Grizzles return home to host Green Bay on Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oakland Soccer Field. All faculty and staff who show their ID get into the game for free.
This is the 13th meeting between Oakland and Valparaiso with the Golden Grizzles leading the all-time series 8-4-1. Last season, Oakland recorded a 2-0 road win over the Crusaders. The all time series between Oakland and Green Bay is tied 3-3 with the Phoenix recording a 3-2 home victory last season.
Stephanie Bukovec was named Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 15 -21, announced by the league office on Monday, tallying a league-best 12 saves. She also recorded a career-high nine saves to preserve Oakland's 1-1 double-overtime tie at Kent State (Sept.19) and earned her first career win shutting out St. Francis (Pa) (Sept. 21) in the second half en route to a 4-1 victory.
Defensively, the Golden Grizzlies lead the Horizon League in saves (58) with Bukovec tied for the league lead in saves per game (5.50) and ranks sixth in saves (33).
Offensively, Kyla Kellermann leads the team in goals (4) and points (8). She also leads the league in shot percent (33 percent), tied for second in goals and goals per game (.50), third in shots on goal percentage (75 percent) and fourth in points.
Alice Palmer is first on the team in assists (3), second on the team in goals (2) and points (7). She is tied for second in the league in assists and tied for third for assists per game (.33).
Valparaiso's (3-1-4) win at Eastern Illinois (Sept. 19) extended its unbeaten streak to seven consecutive matches. Ironically, the Crusaders lead the league in goals allowed (8) and goals against average. (.45). They are led by sophomore forward Vanes Abad who has a team-high in goals (3) and points (6).
Green Bay (6-2-2) enters the game with the best overall record in the league after defeating Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 19). As a team, the Phoenix also lead the league in nearly every offensive category - goals (23), assists (20), points (66), shots (155). They are lead by junior forward Heidi Hartmann who leads the league in goals (10), goals per game (1.00), points (20) and points per game (2.00).
