OAKLAND FALLS AT AIR FORCE, 5-1

Sept. 14, 2014

Box Score

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Oakland women's soccer team (1-7) dropped at 5-1 decision at Air Force (3-3) Sunday afternoon at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies recorded 13 shots with Alice Palmer scoring her fist goal of the season. Defensively, Stephanie Bukovec faced 18 shots recording a career-high seven saves in the losing effort.

"Too many costly mistakes today put the game out of our reach early," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "We had a bright start and created a couple of chances but four goals allowed in the first half was too big of a mountain to climb. We gave it everything in the second half but it was not enough to get us back in the game."

Air Force jumped out to1-0 lead six minutes in the contest capitalizing off a set piece as Angela Karamons scored on a header off a free kick. The Falcons added another tally in the 28th minute, then added two more goals within a minute of each other from Megan Schulze followed by Gabriella Gray to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

In the 79th minute of the second half, Joan Sieja sent in a shot which goalkeeper Bridget Bielski saved but could not corral the rebound. Palmer moved in and put the loose ball in the back of the net putting Oakland on the board at 4-1.

However, Air Force's Alison Skidmore scored just 30 seconds later giving the Falcons the 5-1 victory.

Oakland continues its road swing with a 4:00 p.m. match at Kent State on Friday, Sept. 19 at Zoeller Field.
