WEST POINT, N.Y. -​ Junior Ciara Schultz dished out a career-high 47 assists against Binghamton Saturday afternoon while Cassie Pelloni had double-figure kills in both matches as Oakland tallied a pair of wins in the first day at the Black Knights Invitational, hosted by Army.
Oakland started the day with a four-set win over Binghamton, 25-14, 18-25, 23-25, 25-11 and then capped their Saturday effort with a three-set victory over Holy Cross, 25-23, 25-21, 25-17. The victories pulled the Golden Grizzlies back to .500 for the season at 5-5 overall.
"This was a good day for our team," Oakland head coach Rob Beam said. "We found a great sideout rhythm and were very steady offensively. I thought our serve receive was outstanding."
The Oakland defense committed just six errors on serve receive on the day, while Taylor Humm led the team with 32 digs, including 23 in the win over Binghamton (1-8).
Melissa Deatsch led Oakland against Binghamton with 16 kills, while Pelloni and Amanda Baker added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Cassie Pelloni hit a blistering .577 thanks to 17 kills while teammate Sammy Condon added 14 kills with no errors to lead the Golden Grizzlies to a three-set victory over Holy Cross (1-8).
The Golden Grizzlies came out strong in the first set, notching 19 points on kills as the team hit .381. Aided by Pelloni and Condon's pace, Oakland finished the three-set victory hitting .348 with just 12 errors.
Ciara Schultz had 38 assists while Taylor Humm (9 digs), Alli Gutschow (8 digs) and Allia Knight (7 digs) anchored the defense.
Oakland wraps up the Black Knights Invitational Sunday, Sept. 14 when the Golden Grizzlies challenge Army at 1 p.m.
