OAKLAND DROPS 3-0 DECISION AT NO. 16 NOTRE DAME

Aug. 24, 2014

Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Oakland women's soccer team put in a solid defensive effort anchored by goalkeepers Alison Holland and Stephanie Bukovec who faced a combined 27 shots making nine saves as the Golden Grizzles fell, 3-0, to No. 16 Notre Dame (2-0) Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. Alice Palmer and Katy Wagner each tallied shots for Oakland (0-2).

"We put in a gutsy defensive performance against a strong Notre Dame team," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "At times, we caused them some problems and matched up really well. We will take those positives and work hard this week to improve as we prepare for our game against Saginaw Valley this Thursday."

Notre Dame got on the board first in the 26th minute as Morgan Andrews launched a shot from 30 yards out that hit the crossbar past the outstretched arms of Holland. The ball bounced straight back in the middle where an unmarked Kaitln Klawunder tapped the rebound into an open net giving the Irish a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

In the 63rd minute of the second half, Andrews once again sparked the Irish offense firing a shot at Bukovec who made a sliding save low to the left side. However, Lauren Bohaboy corralled the rebound and put a shot into the net putting ND up 2-0.

Bohaboy finished off the scoring for Notre Dame in the 74th minute dribbling through two defenders inside the box placing a shot in the upper left side of the net to seal the 3-0 victory.

Oakland hosts Saginaw Valley State for the home opener at the OU Soccer Field on Thursday, August 28th at 7 p.m.
