OAKLAND CAPTURES EXHIBITION WIN OVER ST. BONAVENTURE, 2-0

Aug. 14, 2014

Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Julianne Boyle and Vlad Gurovski each scored in the opening half to lead the Oakland women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over St. Bonaventure in an exhibition match on Thursday at the OU Soccer Field.

"The girls know that this is the first game back and there would be some nerves," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "Some people were playing some minutes they may not have in the past and freshman coming in and playing a big role. Even though it was tough to play against a strong St. Bonaventure team that put pressure on us, we were still able to pass the ball. Every pass we are learning and every game we are learning so we will improve on that for our next game on Saturday."

Boyle score the opening goal of the game in the 18th minute as she received a pass through the box from Alice Palmer and slotted it into the lower left corner of the goal. The Golden Grizzlies would add to their lead in the 32nd minute as Joan Sieja served a cross that was one-timed by Gurovski into the right side of the net.

Oakland kept a clean sheet as Stephanie Bukovec played the first half and made a save in the 31st minute, while Allison Holland was in goal for the second half and saved a shot in the 78th minute.

The Golden Grizzlies out shot the Bonnies 10-7 including a 7-2 advantage in the opening period.

OU will continue its preseason slate on Saturday as they host Toledo in an exhibition match beginning at 7 p.m. at the OU Soccer Field.
