OAKLAND FALLS TO LEAGUE CHAMPION GREEN BAY, 67-52

March 6, 2014

Box Score | Notes

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Victoria Lipscomb and Elena Popkey each scored 14 points but it was not enough as the Oakland women's basketball team (12-16, 7-8 HL) fell to Horizon League Champion Green Bay (19-8, 12-3 HL), 67-52, Thursday night at the Kress Events Center.

"There is a reason Green Bay has won 16-straight league championships," said head coach Jeff Tungate. "They have a toughness about them that we don't have. They played very well. They are very efficient at what they do on offense and can guard you. They play the game for a full 40 minutes and that's something we need to learn how to do. For us, our margin of error is very small against them and they capitalized on our mistakes."

Lipscomb hit three 3-pointers for just the seventh time this season. Olivia Nash also added 10 points and tied for a team-high six rebounds. With the win the Phoenix guarantee at least a share of the league's regular season championship.

The Golden Grizzlies trailed 40-31 at the half, despite leading for most of the first half, behind 10 early points by Lipscomb. OU held a 21-17 advantage with 7:48 remaining until GB would go on a 13-2 run over a four minute span to go up 30-23. Green Bay shot 55.6 percent in the opening period including 66.7 percent from behind the arc.

The Phoenix continued to push their lead in the second half starting the period on a 11-3 run to go up by 18 points. Breannah Ranger scored 12 in the half as GB tallied 20 of its 27 second-half points in the paint. Nola Anderson recorded all eight of her points in the second period.

Green Bay was led by Ranger with 19 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Tesha Buck added 16 points. GB finished the game shooting 54.0 percent from the field compared to 35.8 percent by the Grizzlies.

Oakland will conclude the regular season on Saturday as it travels to Milwaukee to take on the Panthers beginning at 3 p.m. ET
