ROCHESTER, Mich. - Kaley Waalkes has been selected as this week's student-athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 24 - March 2. Her excellent performance during OU's spring trip to Tennessee and Florida helped the freshman earn the honor.
Oakland played nine games over the span of the week, five of which were started by Waalkes in the circle. She garnered a perfect 5-0 record with four complete games in the stretch. Overall, OU was 8-1 on the week.
Waalkes threw 35 innings cumulatively with a 1.40 ERA, surrendering just eight runs while striking out 20. Opponents hit .246 against her.
Perhaps one of her most impressive performances of the week was a four-hitter against FGCU, which ended in a 2-1 win for Oakland. Waalkes threw all seven innings, earning four strikeouts. FGCU's lone run was unearned.
