Spring Schedule
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's soccer team and head coach Eric Pogue announced its 2014 spring schedule on Monday highlighted by home matches against national champion Notre Dame, Xavier and Northwestern.
"This spring schedule was put together to test ourselves against some of the nation's top teams and see where we are at and where we need to be come August 2014," said head coach Eric Pogue. "We return a strong base of players, but we lost a core group of seniors that played large roles and provided a ton of leadership, so this spring will give us a great opportunity to gain invaluable experience heading into the Fall.
"Our spring schedule includes 2013 national champions Notre Dame, NCAA Elite Eight Michigan State, as well as perennial national top-25 programs in Michigan, Northwestern and Xavier," added Pogue. "Saginaw Valley State is one of the top five NCAA DII programs in the nation, so we will be tested each and every game."
The Golden Grizzlies will host the 2013 national champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish on March 22 at the Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, Mich. beginning at 3:15 p.m. Later that day OU will also take on Xavier starting at 5:00 p.m.
Oakland will open its spring season on March 14 in East Lansing, Mich. against in-state rival Michigan State beginning at 7 p.m. at the Duffy Daughtery Football season before taking on Saginaw Valley State on March 15 in the EMU Bubble on the campus of Eastern Michigan starting at 5:30 p.m.
OU will conclude its spring schedule with a road contest at Michigan on March 28 starting at 7 p.m. at the UM Glick Fieldhouse before concluding the season against Northwestern on April 5 at Ultimate Soccer Arena starting at 1:30 p.m. Each Oakland home game is a part of the Michigan Bucks Challenge Cup.
"Special thanks to the Michigan Bucks for always including us in their Bucks College Cups each year and allowing us to showcase our program and our players," said Pogue.
