OU SOFTBALL DROPS 14-3 DECISION TO NO. 1 TENNESSEE

Feb. 9, 2014

Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. - Morgan Muron sent a shot out of the park for a three-run homer as Oakland (1-4) lost to No. 1 Tennessee (4-0), 14-3 on Sunday in the Golden Grizzlies' last game of the Eagle Round Robin Tournament. Muron's homer is the only one to be hit of off Tennessee thus far in the tournament with one game remaining and the first of her career.

The game remained scoreless through two innings before Tennessee tallied a single-run homer in the top of the third. The Volunteers followed that up with four more runs in the top of four. A blank fifth inning for both teams was trumped by three runs scored by Tennessee in the top of six.

Muron stepped to the plate in the bottom of six with two already on base and filled the count before turning on a pitch and sending it over the right field fence to put the score at 8-3 in favor of the Vols. Tennessee made no mistake in the top of the seventh, though, and put up another six runs. Oakland was blanked in its last chance to change its fate and the game ended in a 14-3 Tennessee victory.

Erin Kownacki (1-2) threw 6.2 innings for the Golden Grizzlies for all 14 hits and runs through 42 batters faced. Kayla Hensel came in to throw .1 innings and faced three allowing one hit.

Oakland next plays in the ETSU Tournament Feb. 22-23 to kick off its spring trip.
