ROCHESTER, Mich. - Elena Popkey scored 19 points and Olivia Nash added 12 with eight rebounds as Oakland dropped its first home game of the season to Indiana, 88-61, Saturday afternoon at the Athletics Center O'rena. The Golden Grizzlies finish the non-conference home schedule with a 4-1 record.
Popkey's 19 points is a season-high as she also set season-highs in field goals and 3-point field goals. Nash has scored in double-figures in eight out of Oakland's 10 games this season, while Sinclair Russell recorded a career-high four blocks to go along with nine points.
The Golden Grizzlies trailed 46-29 at the half as both teams shot over 48 percent from the floor. Popkey scored 12 of her 19 points in the period on 5-of-7 shooting. IU used a 13-0 run early in the game to take a 19-6 advantage.
Oakland was unable to contain the high-scoring Hoosiers in the second half as Indiana shot 52 percent (17-33) in the period. Jess Walter scored 11 of her team-high 16 points in the half. Nola Anderson and Popkey each tallied seven points to pace the Golden Grizzlies in the period.
The Golden Grizzlies begin a three-game road swing on Monday to complete the non-conference schedule as they travel to former Summit League foe IPFW starting at 7 p.m. at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.
