YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. - Joan Sieja and Alice Palmer led Oakland (3-9-1, 1-2) with eight of the team's 10 shots as the Golden Grizzles came up short at Youngstown State (6-4-2, 2-0), 1-0 on Saturday night at Farmers National Bank Field. Defensively, Alison Holland anchored the back line making four saves facing 12 shots.
"I thought we played very well this evening against YSU and deserved something out of the game," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "We kept the ball and moved it around well and created a number of very good chances from that. We played well in the second half and created some chances but could not convert."
Youngstown State got on the board first in the 13th minute as Katie Hohman sent in a long cross from the right side which found Kathy Baquero who connected on a header past Holland giving the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
Oakland had its best chance for the equalizer seven minutes later. Seija moved in on the right side and fired at shot which clearly beat YSU goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky but the ball hit the crossbar to preserve the YSU lead.
