ROCHESTER, Mich. -​ Cassie Pelloni's 13 kills were not enough Saturday afternoon as the Oakland volleyball team dropped its first match in Horizon League play, falling to UIC 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.
With the setback, Oakland slips to 12-8, 4-1, while UIC improved to 9-12, 3-3.
"I think we were out of focus, and credit to go to UIC for coming out with a great effort," Oakland head coach Rob Beam said.
Melissa Deatsch added 12 kills and nine digs for Oakland in the setback, while Ciara Schultz tallied 33 assists on the day. Jessica Dood added eight kills.
Oakland struggled to find its offensive groove, hitting just .183 against the Flames. UIC hit .340 in the three-set match.
The Golden Grizzlies aim to get back on track Friday, Oct. 17 when Oakland travels to face Green Bay at 7 p.m. CT.
