ROCHESTER, Mich. - Meghan Reynolds shook the nets twice, including the game-winner in the 15th minute, to lift Oakland to a convincing 3-0 victory over IPFW Saturday evening. The shutout win was the second of the year for the Golden Grizzlies, who improved to 4-4-1 on the year and a perfect 3-0-0 at OU Soccer Field. IPFW drops to 2-6 overall.
"The team performed tremendously," said interim head coach Dave Morgan. "We had a great week getting ready for tonight's game."
From the game's first touch, Oakland did not let off the gas in out-shooting IPFW 24-6 on the night, including a 13-1 margin in shots on goal.
Oakland got on the board in the 15th minute, when Reynolds was taken down inside IPFW's penalty box, resulting in a spot kick for the Golden Grizzlies. Reynolds stepped up and placed her 12-yard shot to the right side for the score.
Later in the first half, Natalie Righetti registered her first goal of the year in grand style. Off a pass from Joan Sieja, Righetti turned and fired a laser shot to the far post from 15 yards, giving Oakland a 2-0 lead in the 44th minute. For the half, Oakland out-shot IPFW 18-4.
Reynolds scored an insurance goal in the 64th minute when Alice Palmer sent in a corner kick on the left side to the top of the penalty box on the right. From there, Abigail Haelewyn one-timed a lofting pass to the far post, where Reynolds rose up and nodded it home.
Oakland's defense was staunch, holding IPFW in check and stopping many advances without a shot attempt. Stephanie Bukovec finished with one save in the shutout.
