Oakland Earns Shutout Victory over IUPUI 2-0

Sept. 18, 2013

Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Joey Tinnion scored a goal and had an assist as the Oakland men's soccer team (2-2-3) earned its second-straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over IUPUI (0-6-2), 2-0, Wednesday night at the OU Soccer Field.

"We had a good game today overall, we came out on fire and got a nice goal early," said coach Eric Pogue. "We took our foot off the pedal late in the first half but made some adjustments and were fantastic in the second half. We were really solid defensively and played simpler in the midfield as we were really firing today."

Tinnion scored the opening goal of the match in the eighth minute as he beat the keeper to the left post after receiving a nice pass from Shawn Claud Lawson inside the box. Miche'le Lipari would score his team-leading third goal of the season in the 63rd minute as he finished a brilliant through ball from Tinnion to the far, right post to give the Golden Grizzlies the final 2-0 decision.

OU would end the match with a 22-5 shot advantage including a 10-2 shots on goal lead. Sean Lewis finished with his second shutout of the season, making two saves, while IUPUI's Eduardo Cortes ended the match with eight saves and allowing two goals. The Oakland defense has a streak of 217:57 without allowing a goal, dating back to last weekend against Marshall.

Oakland's next match will be at the OU Soccer Field next week when they host the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday, Sept. 24 starting at 7 p.m.
