Dave Morgan Named Interim Women's Soccer Head Coach

Aug. 6, 2013

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland's Dave Morgan has been named interim head women's soccer coach, announced Director of Athletics Tracy Huth on Tuesday. Morgan has spent the last seven seasons as part of the coaching staff.

"Dave has been instrumental in the success of our women's soccer program," said Huth. "Coach Morgan has been serving as the primary recruiter and has assisted in the development of the current roster. He is very familiar with the student-athletes and the team's style of play. Given our time frame for finding a head coach, we believe that Dave is the right person to lead this program right now. He is the consummate `team player' and I want to thank him for accepting the position."

Morgan is part of the most successful run Oakland has had. The Golden Grizzlies advanced to the NCAA tournament second round for the first time in program history last season as they outscored Ohio State, 3-1 in penalty kicks, in Columbus, Ohio. OU has made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA postseason and a total of four times since Morgan's arrival in 2006.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to lead the program this year," said Morgan. "We have another competitive non-conference schedule and I look forward to guiding the program in its inaugural season inside the Horizon League. I want to thank Tracy Huth for having the confidence in me to keep the on-going success of this program moving forward."

The Department will evaluate the program at the conclusion of the season and anticipates conducting a national search for a head coach.
