Oakland Development Adds Chris Thompson

April 10, 2013

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Former Olympic Medalist Chris Thompson has joined the Oakland Athletic Development office on a part-time basis, announced Assistant Athletic Director for Development Gordie Lindsay on Wednesday. Thompson will assist with alumni athletic relations for the department.

"Chris is a great addition to our staff and brings a winning attitude," said Lindsay. "Being an extremely successful student-athlete in his own right we believe that he will bring that experience while engaging with our former student-athletes here at Oakland."

Thompson is a former Olympic Bronze Medalist in the 1,500m freestyle at the 2000 Sydney Games. A graduate from the University of Michigan, he is a two-time Big Ten Conference Swimmer of the Year and the conference's Medal of Honor recipient in 2001. He also holds the OU Aquatic Center pool record in the 1,000-meter free.

Formerly an intern with the Oakland Athletic Development office, Thompson will now join the athletic department to assist with development initiatives. He will be charged with developing and maintaining relationships with former student-athletes that competed in the Pioneer and Golden Grizzlies eras.
