ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - Luis Jacobo scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting including five 3-pointers and grabbed six rebounds to lead IPFW to a 74-72 victory over Oakland on Saturday.
After Oakland's Travis Bader hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 72, Frank Gaines sunk the go-ahead jumper to give the Mastodons the lead with 1:12 to go. The Golden Grizzlies missed their next two shots including a lay-up with 4 seconds left by Duke Mondy and IPFW (15-16, 7-9 Summit) held on.
Gaines ended the night with 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting. Pierre Bland had nine points, five rebounds and five assists for the Mastodons, which shot 47.5 percent from the field and were 10 of 15 from the free-throw line.
Five players scored in double figures for Oakland (16-15, 10-6) with Drew Valentine leading the way with 15 points and eight rebounds. Corey Petros scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Bader finished with 12 points and broke the all-time school record with his 349th career three, moving past Erik Kangas (2005-09).
