SPRINGFIELD, La. - Nick Cunningham and Evan Bowser each carded 1-under-par rounds to lead the Oakland men's golf team to a sixth-place finish (604/+28) after the first day of action at the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate on Monday.

"This is a talented team which needs to quickly improve how they adjust to the ever changing conditions," said coach Russ Cunningham. "Golf is much more than hitting long drives or having a pretty swing. It's about recognizing the variables then selecting a shot which will place your ball in the desired location. Better distance control will help each player 2-3 strokes per round as well."

Nick Cunningham currently leads the Golden Grizzlies as he is tied for 13th place while Bowser is tied for 19th. Mark Foster shot a second round 75 to tie for 35th while Alex Turner improved 10 strokes in the second round.

Southeastern Louisiana took the first-day lead carding a two-under-par 574 as Eman Bradley shot a four-under-par to take the individual lead.

The final round of the Carter Plantation Intercollegiate will continue tomorrow at the Carter Plantation golf course.
