2013 Women's Soccer All-Horizon League
INDIANAPOLIS - Four Oakland women's soccer players garnered postseason accolades from the Horizon League, as Abigail Haelewyn and Meghan Reynolds were selected as first-team all-league performers, while Rachel DeLuca and Alice Palmer were named to the all-freshman team, the league announced Monday (Nov. 4).
Haelewyn, a senior midfielder, was integral in Oakland's attack in Horizon League action. She scored the game-winning tally in the Golden Grizzlies' road shutout at Cleveland State Oct. 26. For the year, Haelewyn was tied for fourth in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points; two of her three goals were game-deciding strikes.
Reynolds, a senior forward, ranked among the Horizon League's top 10s in goals (T5th - 6), points (T5th - 16) and shots (2nd - 3.1 spg). In conference play, Reynolds scored the decisive goal versus Detroit Oct. 19 and assisted on the game-winning goal against Cleveland State Oct. 26.
As a rookie, DeLuca provided support for Oakland in the midfield, playing 12 games and earning four starts. DeLuca assisted on Oakland's insurance goal in their 2-0 win over Youngstown State Oct. 12.
In her first season, Palmer saw action as both a midfielder and forward this season, taking the field for 16 games, making 12 starts. Palmer had two assists in Horizon League play, helping on the game-winning scores against Valparaiso Oct. 9 and Youngstown State Oct. 12. For the year, Palmer is tied for fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points.
Oakland will begin postseason play Tuesday, Nov. 5 when the Golden Grizzlies, as the Horizon League's No. 3 seed, will host No. 6 seed Youngstown State for a 7 p.m. ET contest at OU Soccer Field.
