OAKLAND DROPS 2-1 HORIZON LEAGUE MATCH AT MILWAUKEE

Oct. 26, 2013

Box Score

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Cody Archibald scored his first goal of the season but it was not enough as the Oakland men's soccer team (5-5-5, 3-1-1 HL) suffered its first Horizon League lose of the season to Milwaukee (11-2-2, 4-2 HL), 2-1, Saturday night at Englemann Field.

"Overall, we played well enough to get a result on the road against a tough Milwaukee team," said coach Eric Pogue. "Unfortunately, we gifted them the first goal on a miscue, and had to play from behind all game and couldn't finish a comeback. We were pleased with the fight our men showed to get back into the game, but we are just going through a tough stretch of injuries, travel and where breaks just aren't going our way. We have two games left in regular season starting with UIC, the conference leader on Wednesday for Senior Night. It will be great to be back home on our game field to compete for the conference title and honor our seven seniors."

Down 2-0, Archibald would cut the deficit to one goal with only four seconds remaining in the first half as he took a volleyed serve from Matt Dudley and Joey Tinnion to the middle of the field from ten yards away and put it in the left side of the net.

UWM would get on the board first in the 28th minute as James Ashcroft picked off an OU pass and took a shot from 15 yards that beat Sean Lewis. The Panthers would add another goal as Laurie Bell scored his 10th goal of the year as he connected with a one-timer to the far post off a cross in the 38th minute.

The Golden Grizzlies looked for the equalizing goal with an opportunity in the 56th minute as Archibald took a shot that was blocked but went to the foot of Dudley who had a chance on the right side but was saved. Shawn Claud Lawson would make a run and attempt to put in a header in the 73rd minute but it went wide.

Lewis finished the match with five saves while Milwaukee's Liam Anderson had three saves in the match.

Oakland will be back on the pitch on Wednesday as they return home after a four-match road trip to host first-place UIC in a Horizon League match starting at 7 p.m. at the OU Soccer Field.
