INDIANAPOLIS - On the shoulders of the team's sixth shutout of the season and Kyla Kellermann's fifth goal of the year, the Oakland women's soccer team (8-7-1) defeated IUPUI (4-8-4) Tuesday evening, 1-0, at Kuntz Stadium.

"We played well tonight," said interim head coach Dave Morgan. "We took the opportunity to play everyone, and it was a good team win, especially on the road."

After a first half where both teams put up five shots apiece, Oakland got into the groove out of the halftime break. The Golden Grizzlies fired the first four shots of the half and out-shot IUPUI 12-7 in the second stanza.

Kellermann shook the nets in the 56th minute for the game's lone goal. Meghan Reynolds broke through the IUPUI defense on the outside, taking the ball deep before crossing it to find Kellermann. The senior forward then shot from close range on the left side for the score.

"We didn't really possess the ball long enough in the first half as we would have liked," Morgan said. "In the second half we made an effort to push hard, and we created a lot of opportunities. We scored a really quality goal because of it."

Oakland carried over its recent success on defense at home with the shutout, limiting IUPUI to just two shots on goal, both in the first half. Stephanie Bukovec made both saves for the shutout.

"Stephanie was great in goal for us," Morgan said. "Getting a win on the road is tough, so we are pleased as a team to get the shutout as well."

Oakland returns to Horizon League play this Saturday when the Golden Grizzlies travel to face Cleveland State for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff.
