ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Shannon Coley made seven saves to help Oakland (2-1-2) earn a 0-0 tie against Michigan State (4-1-1) on Wednesday at the OU Soccer Field. It was the second shutout of the season for the Golden Grizzlies.

"It was a hard-fought game," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "Neither team gave an inch, while both teams worked hard. There were chances at both ends, which made it a good, fun game."

The seven saves by Coley made a difference, as MSU outshot Oakland 20-8. Coley made a pair of one-on-one stops against Allyson Krause and Lisa Vogel, respectively to earn her first shutout of the year.

On the few occasions when Coley was beaten, luck favored the Golden Grizzlies. Twice Michigan State hit the crossbar, including a well struck effort by Vogel in the 32nd minute that hit the underside of the bar and bounced out.

Oakland created its best scoring chance late in the first half, by drawing a foul deep in Spartan territory to set up a dangerous free kick. The service from Julianne Boyle found Sarah Reynolds, but her header went just over the bar. A defender Reynolds was very involved in the match and played well both offensively and defensively.

It was the first draw between Oakland and Michigan State in the 10 meetings between the two programs. It helped the Golden Grizzlies end a streak of six consecutive losses to the Spartans. The Golden Grizzlies are 2-3-1 at home against MSU all-time.

"Our fans were incredible tonight and the energy of the home crowd was electric," added O'Shea. "The players couldn't get over all the support and how loud the crowd was."

Oakland is will face another Big Ten opponent on Sunday when Michigan comes to the OU Soccer Field at for a match at 5 p.m.
