BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Evan Bowser shot a second-round 69 to lead the Oakland men's golf team to an 11-shot improvement from the first to the second round as the Golden Grizzlies are currently in a tie for fourth place with an overall score of 593 (302-291/+17) at the John Piper Intercollegiate on Monday at Stoneridge Golf Club. OU trails tournament leader Cleveland State by six shots (587/+11).

"As a team we started off very poorly over the first four holes in the morning, but I think that may have been from some first-round nerves," said OU coach Russ Cunningham. "The second round was more in line with what I expected and I believe Evan's (Bowser) 69 is a sign of things to come for not only him, but our entire team."

Bowser responded with his 3-under-par second round after shooting 76 in his opening collegiate round and is in a tie for fifth place with an overall score of 145 (+1). Fellow newcomer and junior college transfer Mark Foster carded a 74 in Round 2 and is in a tie for 14th place (149/+5). Right behind Foster is Nick Cunningham with a score of 150 (76-74/T17).

"These guys have been working hard on their games and shooting some great scores, so it's just a matter of time before good things start to happen," said Coach Cunningham.

Bowling Green's Wes Gates shot a blistering 9-under-par 135 (66-69) to take the 36-hole lead. Gates leads Wright State's Cody Nickson by five shots after his 140 (69-71). Bowser trails the leader by 10 shots.

OU's round of 291 matches its lowest round from a season ago. The third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
