"After last weekend the girls really wanted to work hard and get extra reps to play at a level that we saw in Kansas," said head coach Rob Beam. "They wanted to work on areas of ball control, serve and pass and more aggressive serving and we were able to deliver."
Oakland combined for a .352 hitting percentage in the match, as Bray and Humm led the way, followed by Brittany Holbrook with eight kills and an impressive .400 hitting percentage. Ciara Schultz and Alissa Valentine combined for 39 assists as Schultz earned a team-high 21 assists. Alli Kirk led the backline with 14 out of the teams 45 digs against the Rockets.
In the opening set, the Golden Grizzlies came out strong as they recorded 19 total kills in the set led by Bray with seven. In the second set, Oakland had its most efficient hitting set of the night, earning a .400 hitting percentage with 17 total kills as OU dominated early part of the set and never lost momentum as they took a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 set victory.
In the third and final set, the Rockets were once again unable to amount any offense, as they hit only .086 for the set and only led OU by one point early in the game. The Black and Gold spread out the offense as four different players earned a set-high three kills. Holbrook earned three out of her match-high five blocks in the match as Oakland took the final set 25-19 and the match.
