ROCHESTER, Mich. - Reggie Hamilton scored a tournament record 39 points, and Travis Bader added 21, to lead Oakland (18-15) past Bowling Green (16-16), 86-69, in an opening round game of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason tournament on Wednesday night inside the Athletics Center O'rena.
"We are very excited to move on in the postseason," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "A national championship in any tournament is something special and we are four (wins) away from that."
Hamilton, the nation's leading scorer, reached 30 points for the eighth straight game and 16th time this season. He was 5-for-6 from behind the arc, tallying five assists and three steals. Bader went 4-for-9 from long range and Corey Petros grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies.
With OU up by five, 61-56, the Golden Grizzlies used a 12-2 run, highlighted by six points by Hamilton, as the lead grew to 15, 73-58, with 5:28 remaining. That run proved to be the difference in the game as Oakland cruised to a 17-point win.
OU won the battle of the boards, 39-28, and both teams shot 47.5 percent for the game (28-for-59). The Grizzlies are 16-3 this season when holding their opponent to under 50 percent shooting. The Grizzlies shot 51.6 percent (16-31) in the second half.
