Dec. 6, 2012

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kyla Kellermann and Kara Weber were both named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region second team, which was announced on Thursday. The duo are the first Golden Grizzlies to earn NSCAA All-Region honors since the 2003 season.

"Kyla Kellermann and Kara Weber both had fantastic seasons and were leaders for our team on offense and defense respectively," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "It's great to see them get these well-deserved individual honors. It's another achievement for this team, as they were a big part of helping us succeed and the team's overall success certainly helped these players garner the accolades they richly deserve."

Kellermann, a sophomore forward from Elmvale, Ontario, Canada, was The Summit League Offensive Player of the Year. She led the league in scoring with nine goals and three assists for 22 points. Kellermann ranked in the top 150 nationally in goals per game, total points, total goals and game-winning goals. She was an All-Summit League first team selection.

Weber, a senior defender from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, earned Summit League Defensive Player of the Year honors. In addition to being an All-Summit League first team selection, she was also named to The Summit League All-Tournament team. A team captain, Weber helped Oakland post 11 shutouts this season, as OU ranked 37th best in the NCAA for shutout percentage.

Oakland finished the season ranked No. 10 in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region. The Golden Grizzlies got past No. 4 seed Ohio State in a shootout to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. The Black and Gold finished the season 11-6-4 and won The Summit League regular season title and tournament championship.
