CLEVELAND - Evan Bowser won his first-ever collegiate tournament by shooting 69 in his final round to post a 3-under-par total of 213, finishing one shot ahead of teammate Mark Foster who tallied a final round of 71, to lead the Oakland men's golf team to the Cleveland State Invitational title at Canterbury Golf Club on Tuesday. The Golden Grizzlies shot an even-par 288 today and recorded an overall score of 871 (+7).

"In this sport it takes individual success to result in team success, and we have five individuals who contributed to this victory by playing the par 5's 6-under-par today," said OU coach Russ Cunningham.

Bowser registered two rounds of 69 during the tournament and has three rounds under par in six rounds played this year. He becomes the first freshman to win a golf tournament in program history. The Golden Grizzlies' tournament score of 871 ranks eighth-best in program history.

"Great playing by Evan (Bowser) and Mark (Foster)," said Cunningham. "Evan finished 4-under-par over his final seven holes, and that ended up being the difference for both our team and his individual victory."

Nick Cunningham, Cameron Nelson and Alex Turner each finished in a tie for 13th place with an overall score of 225 (+9). Cunningham and Turner both shot a 74 in their final round, while Nelson carded a 76.

Tournament host Cleveland State finished runner-up, three shots behind Oakland. Appalachian State finished third (892/+28), Youngstown State fourth (897/+33) and Fort Wayne fifth (900/+36).
