ROCHESTER, Mich. - Reggie Hamilton tallied 31 points and Corey Petros scored 20 as Oakland (9-10, 3-4) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 93-81 victory over IUPUI (8-10, 2-4) in Summit League men's basketball action on Saturday inside the Athletics Center O'rena. The Golden Grizzlies shot a season-high 54 percent (32-59) in the game.
"All we are doing right now is savoring in the fact that it is good to win a game to get this thing off of our back and start moving forward towards March," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "I'm really pleased with the results tonight. That's the team I remember watching in November tonight. It was great to see that type of play and the offense, the way we played with such confidence, we haven't seen that in a month."
Ryan Bass posted a career-high 14 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Travis Bader added 13 points for the Golden Grizzlies. IUPUI had three players reach 20 points, led by Alex Young's 22. Stephen Thomas scored 20 points and Lyonell Gaines had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Golden Grizzlies raced out to a 9-2 lead and kept up their fast-tempo offense taking a double-digit lead at halftime, 49-37. Oakland shot a season-high 62 percent (18-29) in the opening 20 minutes and held the Jaguars to just 41 percent (15-37).
The Jaguars got as close as eight points in the second half, 64-56 (9:48), but the Grizzlies quickly extended it back to double digits. The lead grew to 15 points on five straight points from Petros, 73-58, with just under eight minutes left in the game. OU would hold on to that double-digit lead for most of the final eight minutes to win by 12.
The Golden Grizzlies will have a week off before traveling to IPFW (9-7, 3-4) for a Summit League matchup. Game time is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be followed on OU's flagship station WDFN-AM (1130) with Mario Impemba (play-by-play) and Neal Ruhl (color).
