ROCHESTER, Mich. - Reggie Hamilton tallied a game-high 28 points and Travis Bader finished with 16 to lead four Oakland players in double figures, but Oral Roberts (12-4, 4-0) shot 69 percent from beyond the arc (11-16) and ended the Golden Grizzlies' 31-game home court league winning streak, 89-80, on Tuesday night inside the Athletics Center O'rena. OU falls to 8-9, 2-3 inside The Summit League on the season.
"We were really bad offensively in the first half and stagnant," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "We were a good team in November and had a chance at being a really good team, but we went the other direction. If we are going to turn this around we must defend better."
Drew Valentine chipped in with 14 points and Corey Petros added 10 for the Golden Grizzlies. ORU's Dominique Morrison led the Golden Eagles with 20 points, including 6 of 8 from beyond the arc. Roderick Pearson tallied 17 points and eight assists, while Steven Roundtree scored 16 off the bench.
The first half witnessed seven lead changes and three ties, but ORU used an 11-2 run late and took a six-point lead at halftime, 32-26. Morrison connected on 3 of 4 3-pointers and led all scorers with 11 points at the break.
The Golden Eagles took control of the game in the second half, shooting 78 percent from the floor (21-27) in the final 20 minutes and took a 20-point lead on the Golden Grizzlies. OU would get within 11 on several occasions, but could not get it to single digits until very late.
The Golden Grizzlies will host Western Illinois (7-5, 2-2) on Thursday night inside the O'rena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
