Oakland Gets Shutout Victory 2-0 Over Dayton

Sept. 25, 2011

Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Jake Przybycien had a goal and an assist to help lead the Oakland men's soccer team (2-6-1) to a 2-0 win over Dayton (1-7-0) on Sunday at the OU Soccer Field. It was the first shutout of the season for the Golden Grizzlies.

"We are pleased to get a result," said Oakland head coach Eric Pogue, "To rebound with a win today was really good. I thought that the effort level was good, especially after playing an intense game against Oral Roberts."

Oakland took the lead in the 38th minute when Przybycien scored his second goal of the year. Lucas Diener hit a low, driven ball across the face of goal and the onrushing Przybycien slid to make contact with the ball inside the six-yard area and directed it into the back of the net.

Oakland doubled its advantage in the 74th minute on a high-quality strike by Jeff Cheslik. Przybycien started the play with a pass to Josh Bennett who laid the ball back to Cheslik and he curled his shot into the top corner from over 20 yards out. It was Cheslik's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Golden Grizzlies outshot Dayton 15-8 with a 10-4 edge in shots in the first half. OU nearly doubled the lead in the 45th minute when Winston Henderson rattled the crossbar with a hard-driven shot.

Scott Messer had three saves in goal for OU to record the first shutout of the season. The biggest save came in the second half when he slid out to make a one-on-one save against Max Odgaard. The Golden Grizzlies had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal and Alex Storm recorded three saves in goal for Dayton.

Oakland is back in action on Saturday with a Summit League match against UMKC at 7 p.m. CT. It is a meeting between last season's regular-season and tournament champions.
