TOLEDO, Ohio - Alissa Valentine had 49 assists and Alli Kirk recorded 16 digs as the Oakland University volleyball team beat Wright State in four sets (25-9, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19) at the Blue-Gold Invitational, hosted by the University of Toledo, at Savage Arena Saturday afternoon.

"The team played very well this afternoon," said head coach Rob Beam. "Alissa Valentine distributed the offense well and our attackers terminated any Wright State rallies."

OU had a balanced attack all match as four Golden Grizzlies recorded double-digit kills, led by Meghan Bray with her second straight 18 kill performance. Allison Bell, Brittany Holbrook and Ashleigh Slemmer each had 11 kills for the match. Kirk led the back line with her 16 kills along with 12 digs by both Bray and Becca Means.

In the first set, Oakland took advantage of nine Wright State attack errors to win the set handily 25-9. In the second set, the Grizzlies fell behind early, 8-3 until the front line took over getting 17 kills in the set, eventually winning 12 out of the last 17 points to win 25-20. The Black and Gold finished the match with a 25-19 victory as Valentine started the set with two straight kills. Bray added seven kills and the final point of the match.

Oakland will finish the Blue-Gold Invitational tonight against host Toledo starting at 7 p.m. at Savage Arena. Fans can follow the action at OUgrizzlies.com or by clicking here.
