Box Score
INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI (15-10, 9-3) outscored Oakland University (17-9, 12-1) 29-4 from the free-throw line and held off a late charge by the Golden Grizzlies to snap OU's 20-game Summit League winning streak with a 100-88 victory on Saturday night inside Conseco Fieldhouse.
Junior Reggie Hamilton led five Golden Grizzlies with 23 points, while senior Keith Benson fouled out with 10 minutes left in the game with 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman Travis Bader finished with 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting from beyond the arc, while senior Larry Wright and sophomore Drew Valentine with 10 points each.
Alex Young scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Leroy Nobles went 12 of 14 from the free-throw line and finished with 23. Stephen Thomas added 19 and Christian Siakam tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Golden Grizzlies trailed by as many as 13 points, 69-56, with 9:36 left in the game. Bader then rallied the Golden Grizzlies with three 3-pointers and Oakland found itself down by just three points, 80-77, with just over 5 minutes left in the game.
The Jaguars increased their lead to seven points, 88-81, with 2:50 left in the half, but Hamilton responded with a big 3-pointer and was fouled after OU picked up a big stop. He converted 1 of 2 free throws and the Grizzlies were down just three, 88-85, with 1:27 remaining in the game.
The Grizzlies had a chance to tie as Hamilton missed the second free thow and OU stole the rebound, but quickly turned it over and IUPUI's Siakam made a layup at the other end to extend the lead back to five. OU would get a late 3-pointer by Wright, but the rally attempt came up short as the Jaguars defeated the Grizzlies for the second straight season at home.
OU is now 29-2 over the last two years in league play with both losses coming in Indianapolis. The Golden Grizzlies season-high 10-game winning streak ended tonight.
Oakland will host IPFW next Saturday, Feb. 12 in a regionally-televised game on Fox Sports Detroit at Noon inside the Athletics Center O'rena.
