Oakland Drops Two To Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Junior Kelsey Krych scored two runs and junior Kylie Schalz went 3-for-5 as the Oakland University softball team (2-6) fell twice to Furman (2-6) 5-1, 9-1, Thursday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.

In game one, Furman used three hits to score two runs in the first inning. The Paladins would score three in the second inning.

In the third inning, Schalz singled and was replaced by freshman Chelsea Carena. Sophomore Erin Galloway singled through the right side to move Carena to second. An error loaded the bases but the Paladins got a ground out to end the inning.

In the fifth, Krych singled and moved to second on an error. A single up the middle by Schalz pushed Krych across the plate.

Schalz went 2-for-3 and drove in a run while Krych scored a run. Senior Marisa Everitt (1-1) gave up six hits, five runs, two earned and struck out seven in six innings of work.

In the night cap, Furman scored two runs off four hits in the first inning. The Paladins scored seven runs over the next two innings.

In the fourth inning, Krych went to second on an error. Singles from Schalz and sophomore Abbie Richardson loaded the bases. Sophomore Erin Galloway lifted a deep fly to left field to score Krych.

Richardson and Schalz had one hit each. Richardson (0-1) gave up eight hits, seven runs and walked one in 1.2 innings of work.

Oakland travels to Spartanburg, S.C., Feb. 25 to compete in the Campus Suites Spartan Classic . They will take on LaSalle at 12 p.m. and Lafayette at 6 p.m. Live Stats for all spring break games can be found at www.ougrizzlies.com
