2012 Softball Schedule
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The 2012 Oakland softball team and head coach LaDonia Hughes announced their 2012 spring schedule on Monday. The Golden Grizzlies feature a non-conference schedule that includes Maryland (Feb. 22), Toledo (Apr. 18), and Bowling Green State University (Apr. 23).
"I'm excited to see what's in store for OU softball this season," said Hughes. "Our motto this year is to get one percent better each day. It's about setting high goals, making huge strides to attain them, while working together as a team and giving 100 percent in all we do."
OU will begin their season with a double-header against Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. on Feb. 19. The team will continue on their spring trip between Feb. 20-24 taking on Furman University, Maryland, Hampton, and Longwood.
The Oakland softball team will begin Summit League play against Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah on March 9-10. The following weekend will they take on IPFW in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The home opener will be against last year's Summit League champions North Dakota State University on Mar. 23-24. The Golden Grizzlies will host three other Summit League opponents at the OU Softball field including Western Illinois (Mar. 30-31), South Dakota State (Apr. 13-14) and IUPUI (Apr. 20-21).
Oakland softball plays four Michigan opponents this year. They will face University of Detroit Mercy (Mar. 21), Western Michigan University (Apr. 3) and Central Michigan (Apr. 10) on the road. They will play Eastern Michigan at home on March 28. Last season, OU softball was 17-29, with a Summit League record of 8-16.
Returning for the Golden Grizzlies is 2011 Summit League first-team selection Shelby Gott who hit .362 last season. Also returning is all-league second-team selections Erika Polidori and Erin Galloway who hit .325 and .301, respectively.
