FARGO, N.D. - Taylor Humm had eight kills and 14 digs and Alli Kirk added 14 digs but the Oakland volleyball team (12-10, 6-6) lost in straight sets to North Dakota State (18-8, 11-2) Saturday night in Bentson Bunker Field House. Oakland fell with set scores of 14-25, 21-25 and 15-25.
"North Dakota State played very well tonight and I give them credit for limiting our production," said head coach Rob Beam. "Although our defense was good tonight, we needed to convert digs into points."
Humm and Meghan Bray led the front line as Bray added six kills on the night, while Ashley Nevelle and Alissa Valentine combined for 24 assists. Valentine added nine digs while Jillian Kulka had eight digs.
In the first set North Dakota State jumped out to an early lead, holding OU to only five kills in the set and won 25-14. In the second set, Oakland was in control as they took a 17-13 lead. However, the Bison came back and won 12 out of the next 16 points including eight kills to take the set 25-21.
NDSU took control of the third set as they jumped to an 8-1 lead led by back-to-back aces from Janna Deyle. Oakland could not recover earning only nine kills in the set, four by Katie Horling, as North Dakota State went on to win 25-15 to take the match.
"We will get back in the gym and sharpen a few areas as we look forward to next weekend," added Beam.
Oakland will be in action next weekend in the Athletics Center O'rena as they take on Summit League leading Oral Roberts on Friday starting at 7 p.m. and Southern Utah on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Halloween Costume night.
