Oakland Drops Home Opener to Eastern Michigan

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Meghan Bray had 11 kills as the Oakland University volleyball team (3-5) lost to Eastern Michigan (8-0) 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) Tuesday evening.

"The home match environment was fantastic tonight," said head coach Rob Beam. "We all appreciate the fans coming out to support our team. I thought that Allison Bell played really well tonight. She is becoming the go-to offensive player that we need in the opposite position."

Junior Allison Bell had a strong night with seven kills and just one error in 15 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. Senior Brittany Dunn collected 12 digs, her seventh double-digit dig performance of the season. Sophomore Jillian Kulka provided a spark off the bench with five digs.

For Eastern Michigan, Rachel Iaquaniello had 17 kills while Kristen Baker had 10 kills. Ashley Mason had 35 assists and three service aces while Haley Stein led the defensive effort with 16 digs.

Oakland hits the road for three games in two days. On Friday, Sept. 10, they open The Summit League season taking on IPFW at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, the Golden Grizzlies will be in Bowling Green, Ohio to play Cornell and Bowling Green. The matches are scheduled to start at 2 and 7 p.m., respectively.
