MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore Meghan Bray had 18 kills, freshman Audrey Wilson had nine kllls and hit .364 and junior Ashley Nevelle had 38 assists to lead the Oakland University volleyball team (2-3) past Robert Morris (2-3) 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-15) at the Active Ankle Challenge on Friday.
"I'm pleased with our performance this evening," said head coach Rob Beam. "We played well both offensively and defensively. Robert Morris' size and athleticism presented a number of challenges for us and it was nice to see our team respond and execute our scouting report. The key in the match was winning the serve and pass game. We were accurate and that opened the net for us. We are looking forward to two more competitive matches tomorrow."
Oakland hit .299 as a team led by Wilson who had just one error in 22 attempts. Sophomore Brittany Holbrook had nine kills and three total blocks while Bray's 18 kills were a team season high. Senior Brittany Dunn had three service aces and collected 16 digs. She now needs just eight digs for 1000 in her career.
Oakland will finish the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 4. The Golden Grizzlies will play Tennessee State at 10 a.m. and Ball State at 7:30 p.m.
