QUOTES
Thursday, May 13
10,000 (W) - Crystina Ridenour (IPFW)
"It's exciting. This is my last season as a college athlete and I went into this race just trying to get a good time. I was kinda of hoping to get the record. My main goal was to run a good race. Getting the record was a nice surprise."
Hammer (M) - Sean Burns (South Dakota State)
"I feel really great and a little overwhelmed. I knew if I had a good day I had a chance to win. The NDSU guys are all really tough competitors. There were four of them right there pushing me."
Hammer (W) - Kristi Koplin (Southern Utah)
"I'm super excited. I've never won so my goal coming in was to win and get a gold medal and I did that. There is more to work on and I can get better."
Javelin (M) - Forrest Ledbetter (Southern Utah)
"My last throw was a little bit of both - something I was hoping for as well as knowing I could do it. I've been dreaming of going over 200 feet since my junior year in high school. To do it and win conference with it is just amazing."
Javelin (W) - Rachel Talbert (Oral Roberts)
"It feels really good to win. This is my fourth time but this time it was exciting as I had only thrown twice all year."
Heptathlon - Heather Zander (North Dakota State)
On leading after the first day -
"Day one went really well. With the cold weather, you just have to go out hard and dig deep for what you have left. My coach and I have been working hard on the 200. He was telling me to focus on the end, get my heels up and keep attacking all the way to the finish. "
Decathlon - Weston Leutz (North Dakota State)
On leading after the first day - "
It went pretty good for the most part. I'm 200 points off my first day PR so it's not my best performance. On the second day - It starts off my best events, the hurdles which is always very nice. We do have a quote which is first day is for athletes and the second day is for decathathletes. Everyone is always sore after the first day and we just have to go out and compete."
WOMEN'S LEADER
Head Coach Eric Houle (Southern Utah)
"We're exactly where we expected to be. I've been coaching long enough to know this game is not over. Tomorrow will change the score dramatically and coming into Saturday, there will be about three teams in the hunt. The Dakota's and Oral Roberts are good teams and we can be right up there. The best any coach can hope for is for their team to do what they need to do."
Oakland Coach Paul Rice
"Well, considering we went into this with a lot of unknowns, and hosting the meet and the schedule changes, the kids hung in there pretty well. Men and women 10K hung in there. Sara Lieblein stood out more than the rest. She had never run a 10K before and coming through and scoring for us is great. Getting two guys among the top eight was really nice. The decathlon and heptathlon are going really well. Megan Enzor being third is awesome."
