ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Amy Trandell scored three goals as the Oakland University women's soccer team tied Detroit Mercy 3-3 and Grand Valley State 1-1 at the Ultimate Soccer Arena, Friday, Apr. 2.
"We played two solid games," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "Amy really showed her offensive abilities. She made some nice moves to get open and it was rewarded with goals. Most of our starters played the full 90 minutes in each game so they were able to get a lot of playing time."
Against Detroit, it was a back and forth contest. The Titans scored at the 80:23 mark to take the lead 3-2. Just 37 seconds later, freshman Leanne Fomenko served up a corner kick to the middle of the box. Trandell settled the ball and then blasted it past the goalie to tie the contest.
Against Grand Valley State, who won the NCAA Division II national championship last fall, the Golden Grizzlies fell behind early. The Lakers found the back of the net just 3:01 after the game started. Oakland kept attacking and at the 87:34 mark, Trandell slipped around the defender and found the left corner.
Oakland wraps up the spring season, Saturday, April 10, with a pair of games in Bowling Green, Ohio. They will play Wright State at 11:00 a.m. and Bowling Green State at 3:00 p.m.
