Nick O'Shea Named Coach of the Year as OU Puts Seven on All-League Teams

ELMHURST, Ill. - Head coach Nick O'Shea was named Summit League Coach of the Year at the league's championship banquet on Thursday night. A total of seven Golden Grizzlies were named to the All-Summit League teams, including four first team selections, which included: senior Dani Haelewyn, junior Sarah Lynch and sophomores Nicole DeLuca and Kara Weber.

For O'Shea, his third Summit League Coach of the Year AWARD comes in a season where he led his squad to a 12-5-3 record overall and The Summit League regular-season title. The Golden Grizzlies were an unbeaten 8-0-1 in league matches, setting The Summit League record with 25 team points this season and equaling record for league-wins in a season. In addition to an eight-match unbeaten streak earlier in the year, O'Shea currently has his team on a five-match winning streak. Oakland finished the regular season the fifth best scoring offense in the nation averaging 2.74 goals per game.

"I am very proud of all the players that received individual awards," said O'Shea. "These players were able to get these awards because of the efforts of the entire team. We are able to succeed because of our overall team success."

Haelewyn is a senior co-captain from Rochester, Mich. who anchored the Oakland midfield this season. She finished the regular season with seven goals, seven assists and 21 points. Even better in Summit League-play, Haelewyn scored a led the league in all offensive categories in league play, scoring five goals, distributing a league-high five assists to finish with 15 points, the most of any player in The Summit League. She earned The Summit League Offensive Player of the Week Award on Nov. 1.

Lynch a midfielder from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada had seven goals this season, including a team-high, three match-winning goals. She dished out four assists to finish the season with 18 points, the third most in The Summit League. She earned The Summit League Offensive Player of the Week Award on Sept. 20.

DeLuca is a midfielder and hails from Clinton Township, Mich. She was the leading goal scorer in The Summit League this season with nine goals. She also led The Summit League with 22 points during the year. She was the only Summit League player to rank nationally in goal scoring and points, ranking 102 in the NCAA in goals per game and 116 in points per game.

Weber, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was a stalwart in the OU backline this season. She helped the Golden Grizzlies allow just 0.89 goals per game in league matches, which was second lowest in The Summit League. OU also had the third lowest goals against average (0.86) in league games. Weber was also a threat coming forward and finished the year with four goals and four assists for 12 points this season.She was twice named The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week.

Freshman Serena San Cartier (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) was named to the All-Summit League second team after scoring four goals and providing two assists for 10 points this season. She scored twice in the span of 16 seconds against IPFW this season. Half of her goals in her freshman campaign were match winning goals.

San Cartier was also named to the All-Freshman team, along with two other OU teammates. Payj O'Shea (Wixom, Mich.) and Jordan Penz (Sterling Heights, Mich.) were also named to the All-Freshman squad. O'Shea is 4-0 as a starting goalkeeper for Oakland this season, with a 0.35 goals against average and two shutouts. Penz has scored two goals and collected five points this season.

The Golden Grizzlies are the top seed in The Summit League tournament hosted by South Dakota State. The Golden Grizzlies will face fourth-seeded Western Illinois on Friday at 4 p.m. The winner advances to the championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Admission to the match is $8 for adults, while a child's tickets is just $5 for those in grades K-12. For fans that are unable to attend the tournament, a live video stream will be available for all three matches (video streaming of the entire tournament is just $7.95).
