Head Coach Beckie Francis
Opening Statement
Of all the times we've played Rochester College, this was the smartest team we've faced. It's a tribute to our players that we never let up and we continued to execute. Although,it was tough at times to get to the line against their zone, our team was unselfish and distributed the ball well, with 25 assists on 31 made baskets. I was really proud of our team and how well we executed tonight.
On the importance of getting a win before the game against Cornell
Yes, it is one of the reasons why I scheduled Rochester College. We just went through a war with Penn State which is why they were feeling beat up. Now we have a home stand starting and it was nice to kick it off with a much needed win.
On the team's performance at Bowling Green
We tried to pretend that we weren't disappointed about Penn State when we got to Bowling Green. It just kept getting brought up and we were physically and emotionally drained. That loss was hard to shake and was a factor in the loss.
On Elizabeth Hamlet's career-high scoring effort
She is a great player. She struggled a bit with her game at a physical level but now she is starting to come along. She was a big time scorer in high school and she has some swagger to her. She showed some of that tonight.
Junior Guard Sharise Calhoun
On the confidence boost the win gives the team heading into Cornell
Of course. BG is a great team but we realized we had to work on a few things and make changes. We worked in practice yesterday on little things which help us tonight. It's always great to come into a game off a win. You build confidence and intensity. It makes us hungrier to play well over the next four home games.
Regarding her transition scoring against Rochester College
It actually was all my teammates. It's great to know I have the confidence to pressure the ball so much. It created steals and I could just run the lanes. What I love about this team is they are intense and unselfish.
Redshirt Freshman Guard Elizabeth Hamlet
The confidence boost of winning before facing Cornell
Absolutely. This was a great pick-me up. Like Sharise said, we worked on the little things. And everything we did tonight was a whole step higher.
