Oct. 16, 2010

Box Score

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Freshman Serena San Cartier scored twice, including the match-winner, to lead the Oakland University women's soccer team (8-5-2, 4-0-1) to a 5-2 victory over IPFW (5-7, 2-3) in Summit League play on Saturday night at Hefner Stadium. The win leaves the Golden Grizzlies as the only remaining team that is undefeated in Summit League play.

"The team played very well for the full 90 minutes tonight," said Oakland head coach Nick O'Shea. "We moved the ball well and created several chances. IPFW took advantage of our few turnovers, but other than that, we limited their chances in the flow of the game."

San Cartier scored back-to-back goals in the span of 16 seconds to put Oakland ahead for good. Freshman Meghan Reynolds set up the first goal at 28:53 with a pass to San Cartier who scored from eight yards out to break a 1-1 tie. Following the goal, freshman Julianne Boyle stole the pass from the kick off and played a pass to San Cartier who scored from 10 yards out. Boyle leads the OU team with six assists this season.

Sophomore Kara Weber gave OU a lead in the 10th minute when she headed in a corner kick from senior Dani Haelewyn. It is the fourth goal of the season for the central defender from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Kara O'Toole had a pair of first-half goals for IPFW to keep the match close. O'Toole leveled the score in the 24th minute on an assist from Rhea Proctor. O'Toole scored again in the 42nd minute, once again on an assist by Proctor.

Haelewyn made it a 4-2 lead for Oakland coming out of halftime when she scored on an assist from sophomore Nicole DeLuca. In the 57th minute DeLuca scored on an assist from Haelewyn to cap the scoring. It was her Summit League-leading ninth goal of the season for DeLuca who also leads the league with 21 points.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to action on Friday with a key Summit League match against IUPUI at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas. Admission to the match is $7 for adults, while children's admission is just $4 and a rate of $4 per-person is also available to groups of 25 or more.
